The horrible news from the Gulf following the BP oil spill has me thinking about the shrimpers I met there a couple of years ago for my last film. Which is why I posted this short video clip from Rising from Ruins in tribute to them. Derek Ditcharo’s company has been featured in some of the recent coverage out of the Gulf, including NPR’s “Anxiety Runs High for Gulf Fishermen” where manager Mike Berthelot called it “the beginning of the end”:
I don’t see no more future for us to ever catch fresh fish ever again — oysters, crabs. I think it’s over with. You had Katrina, Ike, Gustav. You can add all those together, ain’t gonna be nowhere near what this is gonna do.
